03/21/2013 - Matt Belley wins student paper competition at NCHPS conference

For the 3rd year in a row, a Duke student has won first place in the student paper competition at the North Carolina Health Physics Society (NCHPS). This year the honor went to 2nd year PhD student Matthew Belley for his paper entitled “Cs-137 and 320kVp orthovoltage small animal irradiator organ dose comparison using Monte Carlo Methods” (advisor: Terry Yoshizumi). The meeting was held at Carolina Beach, NC on Feb 28 to March 1, 2013.

03/09/2013 - Spring open house

From March 7 thru 9, we hosted our spring open house event. This year we welcomed 11 MS and 9 PhD student recruits. Highlights included an evening social where guests mingled with current students in the Millennium hotel (top picture), lab and hospital tours, interviews for PhD candidates, dinner with students at Satisfaction Restaurant in historic downtown Durham, meetings with program leaders, trips to Durham places of interest, and lunch at the beautiful Horton Hall of our own Sarah P. Duke Gardens (bottom picture).

01/04/2013 - CAMPEP accreditation renewed

We are happy to report that the Graduate Program in Medical Physics (that's us!) has been re-accredited by CAMPEP for an additional 5 years. Duke first received accreditation in 2008. The mission of CAMPEP [ext. link] is "to promote consistent quality education of medical physicists by evaluating and accrediting Graduate, Residency and Continuing Education programs that meet high standards established by CAMPEP in collaboration with its sponsoring organizations."
