We closed out the Seminars in Medical Physics course this semester with John Hazle Ph.D., FAAPM, FACR. Dr. Hazle, is a tenured Professor of Imaging Physics, Radiation Physics, and Radiology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is the Chairman of the Department of Imaging Physics (Division of Diagnostic Imaging), and currently serves as president of our professional body AAPM. Dr. Hazle addressed the very topical question of what role medical physicists will play in modern medicine after our field has matured for 30+ years. He also touched on far-ranging issues including board exams, residencies, certification, research vs. clinical careers, imaging vs. therapy physics, and even the 1-point win by the Duke men’s college basketball team versus Vermont the night before!
