The Distinguished Lecture series welcomed Dr. Lawrence Marks, MD, who presented on “Error Bars in Medical Imaging.” The Medical Physics Program students and faculty were in attendance to learn about the frequency and causes of “human-errors” in the clinic and Dr. Marks’ methods to improve patient safety. His talk also challenged the widespread reliance on diagnostic imaging by the physicists and physicians in the patient treatment process. Dr. Marks was faculty at Duke for 19 years and joined UNC Chapel Hill in 2008 as Chair of Radiation Oncology. The lecture series will continue to feature prominent figures in the scientific community throughout the fall 2016 academic year.
