Drs. Dean Darnell (PI), Trong-Kha Truong (co-PI) and Allen Song (co-PI) (Radiology/BIAC) received a grant from GE Healthcare to design, and implement, a wireless Integrated Parallel Reception/Excitation and B0 shimming (iPRES-W) head coil array for the new GE Premier MRI scanner. The iPRES-W technology, patented at Duke University, can perform simultaneous MRI signal reception and wireless localized B0 shimming with the same set of coil elements on the array to reduce susceptibility-induced geometric distortions and signal loss that occur at air/tissue interfaces in the brain. As such, this technology will provide improved structural and functional imaging for researchers and clinicians in these brain regions.
