Our students, faculty, and alumni gathered for our first-ever retreat focusing on leadership and professionalism. Over 80 members gathered at Camp Agape in Fuquay-Varina, NC on Sep 9-11. Leadership trainers and coaches Andre Kotze and Duke’s Dr. Sharon Hull talked about emotional intelligence, leadership styles, and project management through both lectures and interactive activities. In addition, Dr. Erik Paulson, Chair of Duke Radiology, and Dr. Chris Willett, Chair of Duke Radiation Oncology, participated in a Q&A panel led by Program Director Dr. Ehsan Samei. Dr. Samei followed up with a talk of his own on how to communicate effectively. Dr. James Dobbins, Director Emeritus of our program and now Associate Vice Provost for DKU, gave the plenary talk on decision-making as a leader. In between sessions, attendees enjoyed many social and alternate activities, including volleyball, basketball, zip lining, archery, hiking, and hanging around the campfire. Saturday night’s main activity involved improvisation skits starring both students and faculty and a talent show. For more coverage, please see the Retreat Page.
