MS student Stewart Mein was awarded a scholarship to pursue 12 weeks of research and clinical training experience while working for OncoRay’s Proton Therapy Center at Dresden University of Technology, Germany. Mein took part in daily QA and IMPT commissioning, as well as research concerning 4D CT-based double scattering treatment planning for thoracic cancer patients and a novel range verification method for protons in the clinic. OncoRay is Germany’s “National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology” and opened its doors to patients in early 2014. The institute is one of twenty operational proton therapy centers in Europe.
