On December 14th, 2024, our Medical Physics Program hosted a Gala in honor of its 20th Anniversary. The event brought together over 300 guests, including nearly 100 alumni, making it a truly special evening.
The celebration began with opening remarks from our Program Director, Dr. Mark Oldham, who reflected on the Program’s remarkable growth and warmly acknowledged the alumni, describing the event as “like a reunion.” He was followed by Dr. Christopher G. Willett, MD, Chair of Radiation Oncology, who shared insights into the Program’s evolution, and Dr. Erik Paulson, MD, Chair of Radiology, who traced its origins back to the humble beginnings of regular “morning research meetings.”
Dr. Ehsan Samei, PhD, Co-Founder and Program Director from 2015-2019, spoke about the enduring importance of the Program’s core values, while Dr. James Dobbins III, PhD, Co-Founder and Program Director from 2004-2015, closed the speeches with an inspiring recount of the challenges and ambition that helped establish the Program’s foundation.
After the speeches, guests enjoyed a delectable dinner provided by the Washington Duke Inn. Later in the evening, Dr. Olga Baranova, PhD, Program Manager from 2004-2024, shared heartfelt reflections on her experiences and was recognized for her extraordinary contributions over two decades. A group photo of alumni and staff captured the essence of the evening, celebrating the camaraderie and shared achievements of the Program’s community.
The night concluded with lively socializing, music, and dancing, leaving everyone with cherished memories. The Gala was a resounding success, commemorating 20 years of dedication, innovation, and excellence that will be celebrated for years to come.
