Duke Hosting IAEA Scientific Visit

Members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from nine different countries visited Duke University on October 17-21. Over the course of their stay, they were trained by Duke Medical Center radiological professionals on imaging radiation protection through both didactic lectures and clinical practice. Participants had the opportunity to learn from Duke Medical Physics Graduate Program faculty, the Medical Radiation Center, CIPG, and the Department of Radiology about subjects such as optimization in x-ray imaging, safety workflow at Duke, and dose monitoring and management in the different modalities, in addition to attending a practicum at the Siemens facility in Cary. The clinical aspect of the visit involved trips to the Duke Hospital to observe the safety procedures in pediatric, abdominal, cardiothoracic, and neuro practice.
